On Saturday April 25, 2015 a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck central Nepal.  This catastrophic event was followed by numerous aftershocks registering as high as a magnitude 6.7.

The UN estimates 8 million people may be affected by the earthquake across 39 of the country’s 75 districts. The most severely affected areas include Bhaktapur, Dhading, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Kavre, Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Ramechhap, Rasuwa, and Sindulpalchowk districts in Nepal’s Central Region, as well as Gorkha District in Nepal’s Western Region.  Thousands of villages have been destroyed and clinics and schools have been rendered unusable.

An estimated 14,000 are reported as injured and thousands more are still unaccounted for. Experts predict the death toll could continue to climb as high as 10,000 as search and recovery efforts continue.  An estimated 14,000 are reported as injured and thousands more are still unaccounted for.

There is a dire need for humanitarian aid for Nepal including immediate needs for food and water, shelter, medical care and supplies.  Nepal Reliance Organization (NRO) is currently working hard to coordinate the logistics of delivering relief supplies to the affected area.  We are delivering much-needed emergency supplies such as food, water, clothing and blankets to the affected communities.

Nepal Reliance Organization has been helping those less fortunate since 2002 and we are continuing to make our long-term commitment to the people of Nepal and will continue to work into the foreseeable future as recovery efforts continue.  As a local organization, NRO is better suited for all the logistical challenges facing the earthquake relief efforts.  We are continuing our goal of the sustainability of Nepal and ensuring the culturally, dietary and environmentally appropriate relief supplies are delivered to those most in need during these tragic times.
